62 Percent MLAs from the Outgoing Assembly have Criminal Cases; A Report Says

Ranchi: Out of 79 MLAs, 49 members, around (62%) have declared criminal cases against themselves, however, 38 MLAs; almost 38% are indulged in serious criminal cases. Which are in total 3 MLAs have declared cases related to murder, 10 MLAs are related to attempt to murder. Interestingly, these records were given by the individuals who won the seats in the state.


The party wise sitting MLAs with criminal cases as follows; 21 out of 36 MLAs from the ruling party, which is none other than BJP that is around 58%. 11 out of 18 MLAs from JMM which is nearly 61%, so are the other parties like- congress which has 8 MLAs and out of that 5 members have been reported with the criminal cases against themselves. And almost 63% 5 out of its 8 members (JVM) have declared as criminal cases.


The cases with serious nature are declared as follows; BJP 42%, Congress 25%, JMM 56% and JVM 63%. In numbers, 15 members from the BJP out of its total 36 MLAs, 11 members from JMM out of 18, 2 from congress party and 5 from the JVM from its total numbers.  


The average assets per sitting MLA put to Rs 1.84 crore. The average assets per MLA for 36 of BJP MLAs analysed is Rs 2.09 crore, 18 JMM MLAs analysed is Rs 1.26 crore, eight INC MLAs analysed is Rs 3.42 crore and eight JVM (P) MLAs have average assets of Rs 1.29 crores.


Twenty-eight (35 per cent) MLAs have declared their educational qualification to be between Class 8 and 12 while 50 (63 per cent) MLAs have declared an educational qualification of graduation or above. One MLA has declared that he is just literate.


The release said that 54 (68 per cent) MLAs have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 25 (32 per cent) MLAs have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. Out of 79 MLAs analysed, 10 (13 per cent) MLAs are women. *data sources, ADR
