LUCKNOW: Metro commuters using smart cards will be able to travel seamlessly in all Metros across Uttar Pradesh, besides using the chip-based payment device for availing other facilities.
The officials of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), has said that the smart card will be functional in all the Metro projects coming up in all cities like Meerut, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi and Gorakhpur, to which an integrated system will be put in place.
UPMRC is also planning to allow smart cards for making payments also. The commuters can avail the facilities like food joints, convenience stores and feeder service provided by the corporation.
UPMRC managing director Kumar Keshav said, "The smart cards can be recharged from any city in UP having Metro service. Every data related to a smart card will be shared on one platform, so it can become easy for commuters as well as for us to keep track of smart card sales and their recharges."
Currently, smart card holders get a 10% discount on every ride. The card can be purchased from all Metro stations in Lucknow at a cost of Rs 200, including Rs 100 as security money refundable at the time of returning the card while Rs 100 can be used to pay fare.
